After a commanding 4-0 victory over Urawa Reds – combined with Inter Milan’s 2-0 win over River Plate – Monterrey secured their spot in the Club World Cup Round of 16. Captain Sergio Ramos reflected on the achievement:

“This is a hugely important step for us. Expectations were high, and many doubted Rayados could advance. We stayed disciplined – pressing high, winning possession in the opponent’s half, and capitalizing on our chances. It’s a historic moment for the club, reflecting our collective effort and the physical toll of the previous two games. We handled it well today, advanced, and now it’s time to rest and prepare.”

Monterrey will celebrate their 80th anniversary this Saturday, a milestone made even sweeter by this Club World Cup success – a moment not lost on the former Real Madrid star.

“I’m proud to be part of this project. In just a few months since joining, I’ve given my best here against the world’s top teams. Now, the Round of 16 is essentially a final,” Ramos said.

Reflecting on the victory and its place in his storied career, Ramos added:

“We got the result we wanted, and now the real challenge begins. Tonight has been very special for me and the team. Thanks to everyone who came to support us, and to those cheering from home. We carry this club in our blood – this moment is for all of you who deserve to celebrate.”

The club is celebrating its 80th anniversary, and this is a gift for the institution, the fans, and a way to show ourselves to the world.
